LABS - Camden Lock and Holborn
Client: OD Group
Architect: Yaara Gooner - LABS
Location: Camden Lock NW1, Southampton Place WC1
Contract Duration: 28 weeks

Our client required their Listed Buildings in the iconic area of Camden Lock NW1 and Holborn WC1 to be structurally stable and remediated, prior to fitting out and integration into their already expanding co-working movement.

PCL set about removing the dilapidated roofs at the fourth floor level, installing temporary propping and new supporting steelwork prior to reconstructing same with new trusses, joists and coverings to render the building envelope watertight.

The internal floor structures required structurally re supporting due to excessive movement and dilapidation of the buildings Bressumer floor beams. This involved the design and installation of temporary propping throughout the building from the basement through four floors. Complex steel frames were designed and installed to strengthen the floor Bressumers together with the joisted floors being rebuilt.

All box frames and sash windows were either refurbished, upgraded or replaced where required.

All envelope and structural works were carried out to the approval and in liaison with The Planners, Listed Building Consent and Building Control.

On completion of the foregoing, PCL Designed, Fabricated and Installed, throughout the buildings, Bespoke Purpose Made Kitchens and Tea points with Brass Inlays, Lacquered Frontals, Corian Composite and Polished Concrete Tops, Phone Booths with Reeded Glazing, AC Casings, Banquette Seating, lacquered, with Velvet Upholstery, PC Coated Steel Shelving, Dado Panelling and Corian Vanity Units and Mirrors to all WC's.

The fittings installed complemented the New Solid Herringbone Oak Lacquered Floors, Exposed Services and White Walls highlighting the synergy between Georgian 18th Century Architecture and 21st century designs
